Flash interviews

High Jump women

Winner: Yelena Slesarenko, RUS, 2.02

"This was my best competition this season. I am very happy both with my result and the technique. I felt strong the whole day."

"My goal this season is the World Championships in Japan. I hope to compete at my best level there. And my best level I hope, is close to 2.10."

Pole Vault women

Winner: Yelena Isinbayeva, RUS, 4.85 – BISLETT RECORD

"It was too cold in the end. Otherwise it felt good for me. The first win is secured. The best jump was at 4.75, also the one at 4.85 was not bad.

Technically I must be satisfied. Maybe I would need harder poles. It will be better at next competition in Ostrava."

ExxonMobil Dream Mile, men

Winner: Adil Kaouch, MAR, 3:51.14

"It was my first race of the year, so I did not know what I could expect. I am really tired, but happy with the performance. I did not have any special tactics, just to win. The goal now is clear, to repeat it in Osaka."

100 m hurdles women

Winner: Michelle Perry, USA, 12.70

"I got out well, but the last four hurdles were really bad. But I won, so I can’t complain. I am used to warmer weather. I want to continue and try to win the jackpot share, but it will be tough, there are a lot of other high quality athletes who want to achieve the same."

Javelin men

Winner: Tero Pitkämäki, FIN, 88.78

"A very tight competition on a top level. I am very happy to be the winner. Today I only had two good throws. The problem was that I threw too high." "I hope that next time I can be able to pass 90 meters."

5000m women

Winner: Meseret Defar, ETH, 14:16.63 – NEW WORLD RECORD

"Everything was perfect today. I knew I could break the record after 2 km. The pacemaker was great and because I trained hard in the past weeks it was no problem to continue with the pace alone. I was thinking about 14:18-14:20 – I did not expect it could be so good. It is all due to my hard training, my health is great. I think I can even improve my time.

This year I will stay at 5000m, but for future I can think also about 10000 m. I want to thank God, my husband, coach, and all my family who supported me."

Triple jump men

Winner: Phillips Idowu, GBR, 17.35

"It is a great feeling to come here and win this high quality competition. It is my first Golden League win. I love it. Now I am ready for anything."

110m hurdles men

Winner: Anwar Moore, USA, 13.26

"I’ve never won a race like this, so that is a blessing for me. So far this is a breakthrough year for me. Next are the US trials, there will be great 8 hurdlers in the final and to make the team will be very tough. But that is my aim."

400m women

Winner: Sanya Richards, USA, 50.26 (SB)

"One down, still five to go. But I have a better feeling than after my first race in Eugene, [OR]. The beginning is always tough. This time it was better in all parts of the race. Yes, I still want to double at US Nationals."

1500m women

2nd place: Yulya Fomenko, RUS, 4:01.58

"I did not see her, I was thinking about the win. My mistake – I should have paid more attention."

100m men

Winner: Asafa Powell, JAM, 9.94

"It was just as I wanted. The start was good and that was important. I’m just where I was last year, and I was little bit quicker than in my first race. Sub-10 seconds is always good. My next race is at the Jamaican Championships, but I will only run a 100m there. The start of the series was good for me, but I still have five more races."

100m women

Winner: Stephanie Durst, USA, 11.22

"The key to my win today was to stay in the blocks and not give up, because I had a false start. This will help me in my 200m – which is my main event. In 200m I will try to qualify to Osaka."

3000m steeplechase women

Winner: Eunice Chepkorir, KEN, 9:19.44
New National Record and Bislett Record

"I feel ok, that means with more strong runners I can be even faster. I was alone in the last two laps. Maybe with the Russian Samitova I can come close to world record. I am from the Kalenjin tribe and [have been] running for about six years. But this is my first international season. I think I have room for more improvements."

This is a Bislett record as this is the first time the event was held.

100m hurdles women B final

Winner: Adrianna Lamalle, FRA, 13.02

"My technique was not good, time also was nothing special. But to win at Bislett Games is always something special. It gives you lot of confidence for next races."

Dicus men

Winner: Virgilijus Alekna, LTU, 70.51 (New Bislett Record)

"Alekna has this year’s best result, and 15th competition with a throw over 70 meters – nobody in history has more. He is unbeaten since August 2005.Ê All his valid throws were enough to win at Bislett.

"At the beginning it was a small tension as we had our first duel with Gerd Kanter. Then I relaxed and was throwing well, I must be satisfied with this year’s best. Wind this time did not play any big role, we hardly felt it. So far the season is going well. I don’t expect too many competitions before Osaka, maybe four–five. I think the world record is possible, but all must be in place, my shape, my technique and also good wind."

100m men B final

Winner: Marlon Devonish, GBR, 10.20

"Season best against the wind – that was good. I know I will have it tough to qualify to Osaka at 100m. I see bigger potential in 200m and such 100m races are very good preparations for that. My next aim European Cup 200 m and of course the relay."<

100m women B final

Winner: Winner: Laverne Jones, ISV, 11.32 (SB)

"It was a good test of my speed. I am satisfied, for a steeple runner it’s not bad. My goal is to qualify for Osaka and run sub-8 minutes. I know it is not an easy one, but in Kenya the steeple [competition] is always very tough."

1500m men

Winner: Brimin Kipruto, KEN, 3:36.27 (SB)

"It was a good test of my speed. I am satisfied, for a steeple runner it’s not bad. My goal is to qualify for Osaka and run sub-8 minutes. I know it is not an easy one, but in Kenya the steeple [competition] is always very tough."<

110m hurdles men B final

Winner: Masato Naito, JPN, 13.58

"After I had my personal best in Japan this year I wanted to come to Europe to test myself with strong runners. This was my third race, and now I am heading home for the National Championships. The target is to achieve the finals at World Championships later in the summer in my country, and go in 13.30 [area]. Today I made many technical mistakes, especially at the first hurdle. I hope to come back to Europe in July to test my shape further."
